ECHA – Added a Hazardous Chemical Substance to the Candidate List.

European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Adds a Hazardous Chemical to the Candidate List.

European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added 1,1′-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis[pentabromobenzene]
(DBDPE). With the newly added substances, the list now contains 251 entries.

Some of these substances, which are used in many areas such as lubricants, greases, cosmetics, personal care products, and cleaning products, cover groups of chemical substances, so although the list contains 251 entries, the total number of chemical substances affected is higher. Companies are responsible for managing the risks of these chemicals and providing information to customers and consumers on their safe use.

Importers and manufacturers of substances must notify ECHA within six months of the date of inclusion in the list (November 5, 2025) whether their substances contain a Candidate List substance.

Suppliers of Candidate List substances within the EU and EEA, whether supplied on their own or in mixtures, must update the safety data sheets they provide to their customers.

Under the Waste Framework Directive, companies must also notify ECHA if the articles they produce contain substances of very high concern at a concentration above 0.1% (by weight). This notification is published in ECHA’s database of substances of concern in products (Substances of Concern in Products-SCIP). Under the EU Ecolabel Regulation, products containing SVHCs cannot be awarded the ecolabel.
