ECHA – Three Hazardous Chemicals Added to Candidate List.

European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Adds Three Hazardous Chemicals to Candidate List.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added three new chemical substances to the Candidate List for substances of very high concern (SVHC). With the newly added substances, the list now contains 250 entries.

Two newly added substances are very persistent and very bioaccumulative. They are used, in cosmetics, personal care products and in automotive care products. One substance is toxic for reproduction and is used in textile treatment products and dyes.

Importers and manufacturers of substances must notify ECHA within six months of the date of inclusion in the list (June 25, 2025) whether their substances contain a Candidate List substance.

Suppliers of Candidate List substances within the EU and EEA, whether supplied on their own or in mixtures, must update the safety data sheets they provide to their customers.

Under the Waste Framework Directive, companies must also notify ECHA if the articles they produce contain substances of very high concern at a concentration above 0.1% (by weight). This notification is published in ECHA’s database of substances of concern in products (Substances of Concern in Products-SCIP). Under the EU Ecolabel Regulation, products containing SVHCs cannot be awarded the ecolabel.
